Session checkpointing
A checkpoint saves where a coaching session has got to, so you can come back to it later without starting again. Checkpointing is live on the MCP Server today.
Before you start. Checkpoints are a feature of the MCP connection. You need a connected client and a deal you have been coaching.
What a checkpoint is
When you coach a deal from Claude, Cursor or another client, the assistant builds up state across turns: the deal it is working on, the plays it has suggested, the objections you have discussed, the draft you are refining. A checkpoint stores that state on the valueIQ side, tied to your identity and workspace. Later, the assistant can load it and continue from that point rather than from a blank prompt.
Checkpoints sit alongside the deal's conversation history. Every coaching turn is already saved to the deal, whether it came from the app or an MCP client. A checkpoint adds the working state of the session on top of that history, which is what lets a coaching agent resume across turns and across processes.
When to save one
- At the end of a coaching session you expect to return to, such as a stalled deal you are working over several days.
- Before you switch clients, for example when you start in Claude Desktop and want to continue on claude.ai or in Cursor.
- After a long run of turns, so that a new session can start from the state you reached rather than re-reading everything.
Ask in plain language: "Save a checkpoint of this coaching session."
How to resume
In a new session, in the same client or a different one, ask for it: "Resume from my last checkpoint on the Acme deal." The assistant loads the saved state and carries on. Because the deal's conversation history is shared between the app and every MCP client, what you did after resuming is also visible in the deal's Copilot panel in valueIQ.
What checkpoints are not
A checkpoint is not a version of the value model or a value story. Versions of a story are kept by the story's own version history in the app. A checkpoint holds coaching state only.
