Publish a machine-readable spec
The Story & Spec tab turns your value model into something you can publish: a narrative for human readers and a structured page that AI assistants and search tools can read and verify. This page covers generating the spec, what each sub-view contains, and how to take the output with you.
Generate the spec
- Open the product and click the Story & Spec tab.
- Click Generate Value Model Spec.

Generation creates two things at once: a human-readable narrative and a machine-readable page describing your product's value model. The spec follows The Value Project open standard, an open standards initiative that anyone can implement, so both prospects and AI assistants can discover, understand and reason about the value your product delivers. Publishing the spec on your own site improves discoverability and gives buyers a consistent, transparent view of your value model.
Once generated, two sub-views appear: Narrative and Page Text.

Narrative
The Narrative is your value story in plain language. It is organised by value category, for example Cost Reduction and Risk Mitigation, and walks through each value driver as prose: the problem it addresses, how your product creates the value, the typical improvement range a buyer can expect, and the metric they should track to verify results.
Share this version with a prospect who wants to understand your value model without reading a spreadsheet.
Page Text
The Page Text is the machine-readable companion to the Narrative, structured so buyers and AI tools can read, verify and reason about your model accurately. It contains:
- An interpreter note and YAML frontmatter that tell a language model how to read the page.
- A Solution Overview summarising what your product does and who it is for.
- A Variables table listing every variable with its display name, type, category and description.
- A Value Drivers table with each driver's category, what it applies to, its impact, key metric, and the "applies to customers who" qualification.
- An Improvement Claim Benchmarks table giving the min, median, max, unit, basis and notes behind each improvement rate.
- A Tiers and Modules table describing your product's packaging.
- Benchmark Claims JSON and Value Model JSON blocks containing the full structured data.
At the top of the Page Text is a How to Use This link. It points to The Value Project's discoverability guidance, which explains how to publish your spec so AI assistants and search tools can find, read and reason about it.
View, copy, download and host
You can view the Page Text as Formatted or Raw. Copy puts the text on your clipboard; Download saves it as a file.

The most useful step is to download the JSON and host it on your own website. A hosted spec makes your value model crawlable and machine-readable, so an AI assistant researching your category on a buyer's behalf can read your drivers, benchmarks and packaging directly instead of guessing from marketing copy. Follow the How to Use This guidance for where to place the file.
Regenerate the spec after you rename drivers, edit market estimates or change packaging. The published page should match what your reps are presenting.
